Appling County schools canceled Tuesday
News

APPLING CO., GA (WTOC)- Several concerned citizens in Appling County have called the WTOC 24-hour newsroom with many questions surrounding why school has been canceled for the day.

WTOC spoke with school Superintendent Scarlett Copeland by phone early Tuesday morning who says that the Board of Education, during a regularly scheduled meeting, decided to cancel classes Tuesday out of an abundance of caution because of some health concerns that have occurred outside of the schools.

Copeland tells WTOC that doctors say it is perfectly safe to hold class Tuesday, and that no students, faculty or staff is in any danger, but the school board decided to call off school Tuesday as a precautionary measure.

A totel of six schools in Appling County have been affected by the call. As of now, all schools will be back to normal on Wednesday.

The following release was sent out to all parents, students, and media Monday night:

November 5, 2012

As precautionary measure, we are cancelling school for all students and staff tomorrow, November 6, 2012. We have spoken with medical advisors and they have affirmed to school personnel that all students would be safe on campus. We want to assure all parents, student and concerned community members that we are taking a proactive approach.
