Wayne County woman wins $50K in instant game

WAYNE CO., GA (WTOC)- A Wayne County woman won the top prize in the Jumbo Bucks
Classic scratch-off card game.

Karen Harper, of Screven, won $50,000 in the instant card
game, according to the Georgia Lottery. The winning ticket was purchased at the
Flash Foods at 111 Sunset Blvd. in Jesup.

Harper is a mother of two who works as a groundskeeper
for the Jesup Housing Authority.

She told the Georgia Lottery that she plans to pay off a
car and two motorcycles with her winnings.

Powerball jackpot keeps growing

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC)- The Powerball grand prize has grown again.

Saturday night's drawing will offer the second highest jackpot in Powerball history.

Georgia Lottery officials say strong sales have bumped Saturday's Powerball jackpot from an estimated $475 million to an estimated $550 million. Tickets are $2 per play. Players can add the Power Play feature for $1 more per play.

5 Athletes sign scholarships

Effingham County's playmaking point guard, Jay Wright, signed on with Casper Junior College in Wyoming. He's excited to play for the Thunderbirds because they have a good program and the coaching staff was serious about preparing him to go to the next level. Wright led the Rebels to a 27-5 record last season, averaging 13 points and more than 5 assists a game as the rebels reached the final four for the first time in school history.

Sheriff: Leads and hard work net murder suspects

JESUP, GA (WTOC)- Wayne County Sheriff John Carter praised investigators who pursued leads into the night and a new tactical unit that arrested two murder suspects early Thursday morning.

Members of the sheriff's office's Special Emergency Reaction Team surrounded a mobile home off Railroad Street before 5 a.m. Thursday. They entered and found Kenneth Stevens, 28, and his 16 year old girlfriend among the people inside. Sheriff Carter said the team found drugs and a gun with them.
